In case-control studies, we compare the past experience of two groups. The first consist of patients with definite diagnosis of stroke. The second consists of persons who are free from stroke now or in the past. Both groups (The cases and the controls) are matched for age and gender. Then each person in the cases or controls is carefully interviewed about exposure to all potential risk factors> The controls may be patients with traumatic conditions admitted to same hospital. Controls may also be drawn from the catchment population of stroke cases. For matching you may use individual matching or group matching. You need to read some standard literature about case-control studies.
