I am modelling a flow problem in unsaturated clay region having granular piles.The pile holes have been generated using cut extrude. then I added the granular pile parts and defined surface contacts . Typically the Unsaturated clay has a suction profile. Which I simulated by a constant -ve pore pressure. I applied then surface flow ( rain fall) . The problem does not run unless I define a pore pressure Boundary condition on the surface of the pile holes!! However this BC condition does not allow water to flow through the granular pile material. It seems that ABAQUS flow analysis is not accepting big difference in pore pressure in the same assembly. Any ideas?
