I am trying to calculate the Judd-Ofelt parameters for Sm3+ doped sample and for that purpose I require the U(t)^2 values. I am referring to the Carnall, Fields and Wybourne paper (attached below) for those values. I am able to find the U(t)^2 values easily for individual energy levels of Sm3+ like 4F9/2, 2H11/2 etc. However, I do not know how to take the U(t)^2 values for energy levels given by 4F7/2 + 4S3/2. Should I just add the corresponding U(t)^2 values of 4F7/2 and 4S3/2?
