I want to fabricate the hybrid surface composites using FSP, but from literature I got to know the reinforcement volume percentage for linear blind holes and for groove method only. My aim is to fabricate the surface hybrid composites using side hole method with two different reinforcements. Therefore, I want to know the volume percentage calculation method to fabricate this using Friction Stir Processing.

The volume fraction of reinforcements in the zig-zag pattern can also be calculated similarly to the linear blind hole. To calculate the volume of reinforcement, calculate the volume of hole and multiply by a number of holes. And, the total volume will be the cross-sectional area (in which the tool will move) multiplied by the length. In this way, you can calculate the volume fraction.

But as far as i know from the literature:
%Vol=((Total vol occupied by holes)/(Vol of FSP region))*100
The main issue is of length which is to be considered under vol of FSP region.
What length do you suggest?

There is always an error associated with this calculation. For best approximation, take the length as the distance between the tangent at the start of the first hole and tangent at the end of the last hole.
