I am doing my experiments with a lab synthesized CuO sample. Through XRD and SEM I have verified that it is CuO because it has all the peaks for (111, -111, 200, 110 etc)
I want to know what are the ratios/percentages of various exposed surfaces. Any idea how to do it?
Hi Kartavya, I think your information that you have given is very little just XRD peaks. Anyway, XRD analysis can give an information qualitatively and quantitatively. In your case, it is qualitative. So you need other analysis. Even in qualitative, actually, you can get another information based on your diffractogram, for example the possibility of Cu2O (cuprite), Cu4O3 (Paramelaconite), or CuO (tenorite), Cu itself which has a different run cell parameters. You can Rietveld calculation method in order to get a quantitative information.
If you want to know the ratio of exposed surface of your sample, you can run TEM/HRTM/UHRTM in order to know the possible shape of the crystalline phase in your sample (cubic, monoclinic, or orthorhombhic) and compare the those shape .

Can i say that
if in an XRD the intensity of (111) and (-111) peaks Vs (110) peak is 10:1 , then the EXPOSED surface facet will be also be predominantly (111) and (-111) and not (110)?
Well Kartavya, in order to compare the facet of your crystalline phase due to exposed surface, I think it is different thing. In my opinion, of course, especially that facet, you can use that comparison ( to compare the main peak of hkl (111) and the other peak of hkl (110) in order to know the major facet. However, exposed surface facet, I think you need to use another instrument for analysis since active sites in catalyst position will affect the catalytic reaction (whether facet (111) or facet (110).
