Global forest watch is calculating the tree cover, tree stand, forest fire area, Palm cultivation area.........Similarly, it is used to estimate the net gain or loss. All calculation is based on satellite image analysis in the chosen polygon/area.
I would like to apply this process to identify the area coverage of Chyuri (Indian butter tree) Diploknema butyracea is a potential commodity of Nepal. I developed the fruit estimation model from the field survey, and maintain the relation DBH, height and crown relationship.
If we can determine the crown area of Diploknema butyracea from the satellite images then we can easily estimate fruit production/yield based on the satellite-based crown. area. Then it is equally useful for income and employment creation from such a specific tree. Similar manner, we would be able the yield calculation/income and employment estimation based on satellite images and ground reality relations.
