Hi,

I am analyzing the performance of hybrid concentrated Solar Power and Solar PV plant with a backup boiler operated by natural gas. The nominal nameplate of CSP is 100 MW and PV plant capacity is 80 MW . The boiler is operated by fuel and it is integrated in the power cycle that is part of the CSP plant. It should be able to operate the Rankine cycle , hence the hybrid system in its full capacity (i.e. 100 MW) when the renewable resources are not available.

The general equation to calculate the capacity factor of a given plant is :

CP= Served load / (Installed capacity * 8760)

where 8760 is the number of hours over a span of one year.

Mu questions:

- What is the installed capacity in this case? Is it the sum of the energy generators (i.e. CSP and PV) or the capacity of the hybrid plant (100 MW)

- If the answer is is the sum of generators capacities, should the boiler be considered as generator or not?

Thank you
