Well I have read a lot of forums and actually managed to implement a code in R to solve my question. However it takes 2 hours.
Does anyone know how to calculate the mean of a stack or brick raster (multi-band raster) based on a vector file in R?
Imagine this like a sandwich with various layers (raster bands). Then we press with one finger (vector file). I want the mean of all the pixels or cells through the layers.
Do you want one mean per layer within the boundary of the vector, or one mean across all layers within the boundary? I think you are asking for the former, so this should work for you.
library(raster)
library(rgdal)
#Read in vector file
zn = readOGR('/Path/to/shapefile.shp')
#Read multi-band raster
br = brick('/Path/to/raster')
#Make sure both files in same coordinate system
zn = spTransform(zn, crs(br))
#Return mean of cells from each layer within shapefile boundary
ex = extract(br, zn, fun=mean, na.rm=T)

What I want its the mean through the brick within the vector, which means the latter.
