Initially, I added a known conc of internal standard (IS) in my saturate fraction and then integrated the area of the internal standard from the GC-MS and from this calculation I easily callculated the conc of C17 in my fraction.

For example, Conc. of C17 =[ IS conc. X C17 area]/IS Area.

Please tell me is this procedure accurate? I followed some books where it has been asked to use calibraton curve. I really don't understand what's the point of using calibration curve to find the unknown conc. of any carbon compound in my sample. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.
