In Cassie-Baxter model, the solid-liquid fraction (f) dictates the extent of the contact, how to calculate this parameters? And what is the normal range of this value for PDMS surface?
Thanks,
Hi Ziyang
f is the fraction of the solid surface area wet by the liquid.
For a repeating pattern of structures,
f = (area of structure top)/(area of repeating lattice)
So for a smooth PDMS surface, f = 1, and the Cassie-Baxter model collapses into a trivial solution.
For a structured surface of square pillars where
width = 1 um
spacing = 1 um
lattice = square
then f = (width*width)/(width+spacing)^2 = 1/4 = 0.25
Make sense?

Thanks Andrew, that really helps me.
Great!
