Each and every student wants to study engineering to do a good job. Some may study civil, mechanical, electrical, computer science etc. depending on their interest. If a candidate selects mechanical engineering branch, how can one become a good mechanical engineer?
Any profession needs to persevere in order to become distinguished in your field
Studying hard, acquiring skills, undergoing practical training and understanding the principles lead to become a good mechanical engineer.
The person should have a good aptitude for building things (refer to Michaelangelo). The person must be hands on and be a technician first and foremost before they can become a good mechanical engineer. They also must be bold enough to try different approaches or designs and come up with inventions if possible.
A good mechanical engineer is one who understands and practices the subject combining both academically and practically.
A person having good knowledge on the mechanical subject concerned, learning theoretically and doing practically and doing some projects related to industry are the things that a person can become good mechanical engineer.

Learning the mechanical engineering subject is not sufficient. A person has to have a practical knowledge and bent of mind. If the person develops complete grip on the subject, one can give ideas, suggest a good amicable and easy approach. If these qualities are there for a person, one can become a good mechanical engineer.
A person can become good mechanical engineer when one develops grip on subject. Work at several places for projects/ research/ consultancy and Would develop a capability to contribute an useful thing to society.

One can become a good mechanical engineer when one attains good grip on the mechanical subject, able to identify technical problems, suggest remedies and give suggestions to the mechanical problems facing in society.
An engineer when one clearly identifies the problems in mechanical equipment is a good mechanical engineer. This is got by studying the subject and understanding with interest, hands on experience and confidence to do the job and handle mechanical equipment
