I am using thematic analysis in a slightly unusual way: to identify elicitors and outcomes of an emotion. My interviews contain narratives of people's past situations involving this emotion. I'm new to qualitative analysis/Nvivo & struggle with the following;

1. My verbatim transcribing is painfully slow. Given that my analysis is content based, is there any source which endorses a more basic transcription (I don't want to stray from established guidance)?

2. Is it best to set Nvivo up to code per participant or per narrative (some participants provide several narratives)?

3. I'm concerned my in vivo coding will not make sense without the context - what are people's experience of this?

Any opinions from experience will be greatly appreciated!
