In TGA curve I am getting 2 step decomposition in which the 1st one coming around 185 to 195 degree centigrade. The weight loss calculated is not matching with the constituent present. Its a metal organic inorganic hybrid. According to the molecular formula and weight it should be 20% loss in 1st step, so I can say one of the ligand is lost at this temperature, but if I am getting 10% loss there. plz suggest me how to interpret that.
When weight loss is not matching with constituents present in structure then check its composition and formula.Usually stable molecules are removed to stabilize the system.
Hi Archana Pattnaik from the TGA you uploaded, the weight loss at 185-195 centigrade can come from the decomposition of unreacted ligands in the pores of your MOF. Ligands connected to the framework will leave at one temperature with a sharp weight loss (300 degree you see it). I will suggest you to wash the MOF thoroughly by soxhlet or reflux with appropriate solvent to remove the trapped ligands from the pores and check the TGA again. The weight loss from 300 degrees comes from the decomposition of MOF, where the decomposition of ligands connected to the metal cluster starts to leave.
Weight loss before 200C can often be influenced by moisture and volatiles in the material, especially if you have a porous sample. Another thing to consider.. was it run in nitrogen or air? Metals can form oxides when run in oxygen instead of nitrogen
