how to adjust the pressure to evaporate the methanol solvent from plant extract on the rotary evaporator? I use eyela brand vacuum with aspirator type. when I set the temperature of water bath at 40 degrees Celsius, the methanol solvent is lost in suction by vacuum or no recovery solvent of methanol. when I set the temperature of water bath at 60, methanol solvent recovery is very much. but I am afraid to set the temperature at 60 in water bath, because the sample of plant extract used will be damaged. how is the ideal vacuum pump arrangement to evaporate methanol and obtain an ideal solvent recovery (at 40 C in water bath temperature)?
I did evaporation under vacuum condition, but I did not made this observation before
What type of compound are you isolating in methanol extract that could be damaged at 60°C? Is it sure that the plant extract will be damaged at 60°C?
If verify that 60°C damage this extract and that you should recover methanol for economic and safe environment reasons. You could define a set of experiment were you make a variation of vacuum arrangement and then check the ideal vacuum pump arrangement to evaporate methanol and obtain an ideal condition of solvent recovery.
