Interestingly, before Lincoln and Guba wrote about the four factors, Guba called the issue validity and reliability. Renamed, but what have we accomplished? The major problem is optimism and confirmation bias: Everyone usually finds what they desire, and worse yet, everything gets swept up into a unified story with no disagreements or dysfluency. Braun and Clarke lamented researchers often turn their questions into themes.
Yes David Coker , I totally agree regarding the bias aspects and reporting only what is convenient. I also feel that some conveniently name themes after their research questions instead of allowing the data to predict the themes through rigorous analysis.
Zeeshan Baig, I agree with the two views above (David Coker and David L Morgan). The only other added construct i have come across apart from the 4, is "reflexivity", or so i have read. Again, though are these really being applied appropriately. That remains an open question.
