I am trying to get stable zeolite layer for ATR analysis. Until now I have prepared suspensions of the zeolite particles, added an aliqoute to the ATR cell and waited until it dried. But the layer is rather unstable - either it cracks during drying, or it breaks after the solvent (water, pesticide solution) addition. How can I stabilize the layer? (I have tried various electrolites and pH values - it did not help).

I had the same issue with one of my MOFs. Using Methanol as the solvent worked for me. (I used MeOH because my sample is stable on it) I used a very thick suspension (sonicated) and used a transfer pipette to create the thin layer. I purged dry air overnight. Then I had thin film formed on ATR and lots of non stuck MOF on top of that. I had to take those pieces out and purged only thin film. But, key is have excess zeolite and then once layer formed carefully take out the non stuck pieces. Considering some structural similarities of MOF and Zeolite, hope this method will work on you.
