Hi Ali, your question is somehow similar to a research study we are currently publishing now. However we focused more on the developmental aspect from larvae to adult of different container types along with their physical properties. In regards to the literature we dug into, there will be articles that will only tell you based on their surveillance reports on container index. 

Different mosquitoes have different egg laying preference.  Using a gravid trap means simulating a natural breeding site.  Oviposition medium will go from clean water, brackish water, to highly polluted solution, depending on which mosquito do you want to trap.  I have used CDC gravid mosquito traps containting highly polluted water for capturing Culex pipiens.  It worked very well.
