Edges of a plane?

is different near edge.

Thank you for reply Juan Weisz Sir. But I want to understand the nature of these edge states. If their probability of finding at the edges does not show a sharp decrease but a gradual decrease. And also, in case of pairing we usually get Majorana edge states. But the edge state I am talking about doesn't seem to be Majorana mode. As bot the edge states are on both the end sites.

Edge states may be important in some cases, in relation to the Quantum Hall effect they

may play a role in carrying current. The terminology is used in any case where you want to

differentiate states near a border, from bulk states. Surface science has now further interest, as

techniques like scanning tunneling microscopy has arisen. In chemistry surfaces can be rather important as catalysts

of chemical reactions.

In what case use can use the term Mayorana, I have no idea. I think Mayorana is linked to the theory

of spins, which is quite different.

As a practical person and many years in Solid State Physics, I prefer to dodge very theoretical issues

as Mayorana or topolgy, The later is mathematics, but not Physics. If you are in a laboratory you realize such stuff is not very relevant.

As for density of states near edges, you may know that in one dimension it will peak near edges, aproach a constant in two dimensions and approach zero in three.(alll according to calculations)

If you are doing Hall effect experiments, the electrons will be pulled more to one side, or edge, to get the Hall

voltage. This may lead to more transport along one edge.

Since you mention pairs, you do Superconductors?

Thank you for answering. Juan Weisz Sir, you are right. I am seeing these edge states in superconductor. They are in pairs but overlapping each other at both the edges. While I expected one edge state at one edge and the other edge state at the other edge.
