I was using the filter holders to perform a series of filtration of saline wastewater from aquaculture that will be used to perform TP, TN, ortho-P, TKN analysis. But I only have 1 set of these and I need to clean them each time before changing to a smaller pore size filter. I am looking for ways to clean, prepare, and treat it between filtrations. I can't seem to find any documentation on this.
A hydrochloric acid/potassium dichomate bath followed by deionized water rinse of the pyrex glass holder should clean it up.
We usually soak our holders in a 10% HCl solution until ready for use. This should prevent clogging by any potential organic film. Make sure its rinsed well in DI before use.
Like previous responses, I recommend a 10% HCl solution followed by a vacuum flush of the bare frit (no filter) with DI. However, if time is of the essence and you do not have an acid bath, you will probably find that that 3 ~300 ml rinses with nanopure (RO DI) will acheive about the same results.
