By recognising the importance of plant taxonomy, in origin and evolution of other interrelated disciplines like ecology, Biodiversity, Phytogeography, plant breeding, evolutionary biology, the taxonomy is considered as mother.
Because without classification how could you differentiate between different species and without differences or without there unique identity how could you describe them how could you study about them so to some extent yes taxonomy is mother of botany
Yes, I strongly considered Plant Taxonomy is the mother of Botany. Many disciplines like systematics, molecular phylogeny, are diverged with the rise of plant taxonomy. With out plant taxonomy, there is no plant ecology, plant biotechnology, genetics, plant breeding, pharmacology etc. It's only my point of view.
As one of the oldest branch of Science, Botany originated in prehistory as herbalism with an effort to identify the various plant species in nature. Efforts to catalog and describe their collections were the beginning of plant taxonomy leading in 1753 to Binomial System of Nomenclature by Carl Linnaeus. In the last two decades of 20th century, botanists exploited techniques of molecular genetic analysis to classify plants more accurately. Modern Botany is a multidisciplinary subject with inputs from most other areas of science and technology. Hence, being the first and the beginning field of Botany, plant taxonomy is rightly called the mother of Botany.
The taxonomy of flora is the basis of study for other sciences related to flora and vegetation. classification gives us information on the biological type of species; therefore a precision on its habitat. Also the family and the genus distinguish on morphology and order on physiology so it encompasses botany. without taxonomy we cannot conclude and suggest that in a species there is the phenomenon of speciation and polymorphism therefore linked with plant genetics. taxonomy is linked with the behavior of the species; it is ecology. in conclusion we can say that taxonomy is the basis (the mother of botany).

By understang taxonomy, people can use the source of the plants from their taxonomic group unit. At the same time, with the similar structure, the also have similar function

Since botany specializes in pants, it covers a wide range of evolution of interrelated scientific disciplines that study plants based on systematic arrangement of plants according to alpha taxonomy and omega taxonomy.
All taxonomy is the mother of any taxa. Supposed somebody studied a specimen to its depth and found out almost everything important about it. Then, there is the time to disseminate those important stuff to the world, suddenly the researcher realised he did not know what is the name of the specimen he has been studying that deep.
In general, knowing a plant by its common name is regional, but by with a key character based on the scientific description of the plant differentiates its uniqueness and how they evolved based on their specific key characters makes sense a way to find out its relationship
