We often observe phonon dispersion curve to estimate frequency of Raman active modes at the center of Brillouin zone. How one could distinguish that a particular Raman active mode is due to Longitudinal Optical (LO) branch or Transverse Optical (TO) branch. If one is due to TO branch, whether it is iTO or oTO?

Sir, we have any phonon dispersion curve, without having name (like this branch is LO and other is TO branch and similarly in the case of acoustic phonon branches). How can we distinguish which phonon branch is LO and which phonon branch is TO?
At Gamma, the LO phonon will have a greater energy. Most computational packages can calculate the LO-TO splitting, which is probably your best option for assigning the features.
