During installation of LC-MS instrument, vacuum is required in time-of-flight (ToF) tube. A value of 1.3 x 10^-7 is suggested as per the Company. They say a minimum of 10 days is required to achieve the vacuum. Does it actually take that much time or is it just that the company wants to stall the installation?
To my experience, most of the vendors reccomend about 24, max 48 hours to achieve the required vacuum, but it really depends on the instrument and the power of the pump. It might be that for the first installation, a week of stabilization is required to not damage any of the instrument electronics...
can you indicate the specifics of your instrument?
do you know any reason why they would like to delay the installation?

We feel the delay could be due to the Company using a sub-standard pump. Our procurement has been through a tender, in which the pricing is highly competitive. The company may resort to cutting corners in order to even out their cost. Further, they have even given the cooling time (before installation of the detector) to be around 3 days, which we believe is again overstated.
It takes 24 to 48 hours to achieve the required vacuum. But this is based on the efficacy of pump.
