I'm using a 400W probe sonicator at 80% (320W) to disperse 5g of carnauba wax in 50ml of distilled water at 90-92C for 5 minutes and it doesn't seem to be working. Any thoughts?
Also, have you done a calorimetric measurement of your equipment?
Because I am sure you are not dissipating 320W in your 50mL volume (especially with lab equipment).
If the equipment is well made, you can possibly increase your chances by using a larger diameter probe that can fit your liquid volume. Indeed, the dissipated power in this new configuration must be higher because the impedance must also be higher. This is only true if the equipment you have is regulated in terms of probe displacement rather than power.
