Dear Ali Kifah Kadhum, there is a large number of journals published by big publishers such as Wiley, Elsevier or Springer where you do not have to pay any article processing charges. Payment of such fees is normally limited either to purely Open Access journals or to predatory journals.

Dear, Ali Kifah Kadhum, I agreed with Prof. Frank T. Edelmann. The Journals, asking for money are predatory journals and these corrupted journals misuse the open access (OA) model by demanding a huge amount of money as article processing charges (APCs) from authors to publish their articles and are accepting low-quality papers without going through the standard peer-reviewing process.

One little detail about APC (Article Processing Charge) and closely related charges like page and colour charges. There are quite a number of subscription-based journals that charge you costs (often called publication charges). Such as:

Journal of Biological Chemistry charge 125 USD per page

It should be mentioned that for example a JBC paper is effectively open access (since after a 12-month embargo period it is freely accesible).

So not just Open Access publications can cost you but paywalled journals as well. There are however both in subscription-based and Open Access publishing still numerous journals that charge you nothing.

Just Open Access option can cost you.

You don't have to publish with Open Access option.

Good international / national Journals do not charge for publication of a good research article. The article has to go through the editorial board and may send back to you for revision before publication.

I've never been charged for publishing an article. However, these newly evolved open access (no peer review) journals seem like a different animal.

I have never paid a penny to publish a paper.

There is no meaning to push a paper on a money rocket!!!

No doubt, a lot of journals charge too much fees. Few journals don't charge fees, and publish free of cost. But again, paper acceptance rate is low for publication, especially in those journals which have high impact factors.

Guido J. Reiss P.S. I would estimate that we published ca. 90+% of our research papers in free journals. The only major exception is Acta Crystallographica E, where the publication fees are fairly moderate (currently $ 400). In the past, we published 27 papers in this journal.

Prof.Frank T.Edelmann statement is correct that standard Journals are looking for the quality of the article rather than asking the Publication fee. Some Journals are demanding more fee for Publication but some Journals have employed staff for which they need to pay monthly and others materials cost for printing, labor charges etc pose them to ask Publication process fee.

Above all, some waiver is granted some countries who do not able to pay by their capacity. Those cases are exempted for some Journals but they are collecting the Publication fee in some countries.

Location matters for publication fee aspects.

It honestly depends on what journal you’re publishing your article in. The price can fluctuate. But if you choose a prestigious one (with strict rules that drains the person) then yes, it can be super expensive.

It depends on the journal you chose, but usually the range is from free up to 3000$.

In fact, the problem of publishing prices, simple or large, in scientific journals is one of the most common crises in which the researcher falls, as international scientific journals as well as regional and local set exorbitant prices in exchange for practical publication of research and obtaining the advantage of publishing the research within a scientific journal.

Dealing in dollars or other than the national currency of the researcher is one of the most difficult problems facing the researcher if he wishes to publish in international scientific journals.

The prices of all accredited practical journals that provide publishing services for research increases, in addition to the researcher's uploading the value of mail transfers to conduct the search examination process by the arbitrators, in addition to the fees for paper issues of the journal copies after publishing the research.

The additional fees added to the publishing prices in scientific journals are also one of the obstacles that stand in front of the researcher and make all researchers demand a reduction in publishing prices in scientific journals.

I agree with Frank T. Edelmann-the choice of free journals in every discipline is quite sizable. However, I think the free ones tend to be the higher quality, peer-reviewed journals. The term "publish or perish" has been around for many years. If an article is rejected by one or two peer-reviewed journals, the pressure to pay for publication can become great.

It's better to publish in Elsevier, springer, Wiley Taylor & Francis journals because they'll not charge for regular publishing unless if we choose open access and according to me APC in Gold open access journals is worthy.

Dear Ali Kifah Kadhum I fully agree with Stephan C. Mann in that publishing in reputable journals normally costs nothing. There is no pressure to publish in costly open access journals. Free journals often have the highest impact factors and are listed in the most prominent databases. Furthermore, the choice of free journals in every discipline is so large that no one really needs to pay high publication fees! There is, however, a new trend visible which worries me a bit. Established publishers now publish a number of (quite good) open access journals. Apparently, submissions to highly renowned journals of these publishers get more and more "desk-rejections" together with the suggestion that the manuscript can be "transferred" to one of the expensive open access journals.

I agree with Dr. Mann and Dr. Edelmann. Why APC should be so high ? Even there is an increase in the APC in certain journals.

The only good in some publishing houses with APC is, that they really have astreamlined, thorough and fast reviewing process. In other journals, you may wait for 3 months without receiving any news and find out, that it was rejected without a plausible reason. To save time, APC can be paid, but still it doean't mean, it should be so expensive.

It's much better to publish the journals Wiley, Taylor & Francis, in Elsevier, Springer, because they don't cost regular publication.
