I am trying to morphologically identify Syngnathus spice from Syngnathidae family.
Everything fits to S. acus, however number of trunk rings in case of S. acus is 17 but in these fish i think it is 16.
trunk rings are from the bearing of pectoral to the bearing of anal fin ring.
Maybe i am wrong and i am just counting till anus.
My colleague took good quality photos, I would be grateful if you could check them.
Well, I cannot see the anus very well on the photographs, but I am counting 17 trunk rings (which are counted from the ring bearing the pectoral-fin base to the ring bearing the anus).

Using FishBase (https://www.fishbase.de/summary/Syngnathus-acus.html) and the first picture there are 18 body rings between the head and the dorsal fin so it fists S. acus. Curious, where was the specimen collected?

I just realized that I have cough male about 15 cm, with about 50 eggs inside it's brood pouch, however in Dawson, it is written that males reach maturity when they are 30 cm, having up to 400 eggs.
