In our field of research (chemistry), successful PhD research often requires a lot of experimental work in the laboratory. The completion of a PhD usually takes between 3 and 5 years. What's the duration of a PhD in your area?
If a student can only study and perform academic tasks, it will be 4 or 5 years. Some finish in less time because they attended courses during undergraduate and/or master studies.
However, finishing fast may not be good. Experience and training are not like fast food.
On the other hand, some people work to support themselves and pay for their studies. Others become ill.
The bottom line is to avoid being judgmental when it comes to the time someone took to obtain a Ph.D. degree.
Frank T. Edelmann In soil science, a doctoral student generally has to conduct field investigations and laboratory work, and in several educational systems around the world, he also has to attend courses and seminars. So the average length of a doctoral (Ph.D.) study is about four years. When I did my Ph.D., some of my colleagues in the institute finished theirs in 5 to 7 years. And I had a friend who completed his Ph.D. at a university down under after 13 years! Of course, it also depends to a large extent on the research topic and coverage as well as the availability of needed facilities and materials.
in experimental physics the PhD/ Dr degree is also around 3 to 4 years, as you know mainly depending on more or less the 'luck' of successful experiments.
But I know from former colleagues that some times some additional years may happen.
The duration of the Ph.D in general is between 3 and 6 years maximum. However, it depends on the research disciplines. In the "exact" sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, etc.), the duration is 3 years, sometimes extended to a fourth year. It is the same in my field of research which is management and whose duration varies between 3 and 5 years.
The question is rather vague and therefore difficult to answer. Such as: how much time does it take to get to the city center? I obtained my doctorate after 12 years of teaching, doing research, foreign consultancies etc. etc. With the dedicated help of numerous Master students. So what is my answer? 12 years.
In France (in my field, chemistry) we are incentivized to finish in three years, some financement issue can arise if we take much more time. again I guess that it is specific to France, often times in my field people would continue there research as a post doc if something needs to be done to complete the pHd project.
Many factors have role in the duration of the PhD study that is include research topic, your experience in the research topic, supervisor, laboratory facilities of the University you want study there, and.....
Dear all, if someone is lucky to escape conflicts, conspiracies, and gangs, the PhD take between 3 to 5 years. If not, it will be endless or canceled at the end. It is really a great shame to be in such an environnement. My Regards
My thesis about the antimicrobial effect of ozone as different concentrations on C. jejuni contaminating meat, then about the effect of this treatment on quality of meat such as color, odor, fatty acids profile and other organoleptic characteristics. Finally the effect of this treatment on residual THMs it takes 3 years.
All doctoral students last a minimum of 3 years; and in general 06 years the maximum. at least a high level publication is required. the work must be original.
In regulatory texts, it says minimum 3 years. Beyond 3 years, there are exemptions that are made, depending on the progress of the work. On average it is 04 years.
--Supervisors availability to attend to students at the required time.
--Country of study.
The reason for including country of study is because in my own country, our professors have the mentality that you shouldn't have to acquire the PhD easily, thereby downplaying the researchers effort just to elongate the years. I've seen people spend 8years on PhD because of researchers beffort downplay by supervisor. And again, there's the case of strike action
I did it in 3 years. my major is Accounting, but actually it depends on a set of factors. First of all, your topic and its data avalability. Second, your supervisor. Third, the quality of your publications during this journay.
Dear Nasser Said Gomaa Abdelrasheed, Mohammad A. A. Zaid, A. Kettab, Joan Nyika and Abdulridha Taha Sarhan, many thanks for contributing to this discussion. With 3-4 years you all performed pretty well!
to support a doctorate, you must have a publication with Impact Factor. in many countries, this becomes a source of delay, the doctorate takes 4 to 5 years.
Dear Saad Javed, A. Kettab, Basem Mohammed Al-Sakkaf and Abdulridha Taha Sarhan many thanks for your valuable contributions. It appears that the vast majority of all PhD projects takes 3-5 years.
effectively by majority, doctorates last from 3 to 5 years; but here we are talking about an LMD doctorate (License Master Doctorate). There is also the Doctorate in science which lasts between 4 and 8 years. the doctorate in science still works in many countries.
all newspaper publishers (journals) and all book publishers have their plagiarism detection software. High performance, paid software. it is better to check its articles and documents.
That depends many factors. Most of all depend to your university and faculty arrangements and Conditions. My thesis is defined as interdisciplinary and I think that it takes for 5 years in the most optimistic state.
In legal texts it is 3 to 5 years but according to my experience in the hydraulic field most made 6 to 7 years in the classical system and 4 to 5 years in the LMD system
to support a doctorate depends on 03 main parameters: 1. Will of the candidate. 2. Existing material resources. 3. monitoring of the thesis director. if these 3 conditions are met: 3 years. if these 3 conditions are not met: never
Forever, actually. A PhD (doctoral thesis) is a work for the whole life of a scientist. There are variable conditions and parameters on the side of the students (their relationship to work, commitment, responsibility) and on the side of the activity, productivity of laboratory and professor.
A. Kettab in our field of research (chemistry) most student apply for jobs in chemical industry after finishing their doctorate. There are a number of smaller chemical companies in our area.
