I have a catchment which contains a peak, due to which, the peak and the area adjacent to it receives heavy rainfall (~1500 mm) during the rainy season but otherwise remains dry. However, other regions in the catchment receive lesser share of the seasonal rainfall as compared to the peak region (~700 mm). It may be said the peak region has a very humid climate whereas the other regions are between semi-arid and dry sub-humid. The simple average rainfall in the catchment is about 850 mm while the weighted average (using Thiessen weights) is about 1000 mm. I was wondering if these averages can be considered as a good representative for the overall climate of the catchment as the standard deviation from the average seems high to me. If not, how can I classify the climate of the catchment?
