I have to quantify citral from different samples of essential oil using GC-MS with the ChemStation software and a citral 95% standard. But I don’t know how. I'm unexperienced in this kind of analysis.
I identified alpha-citral and beta-citral with NIST library in both, the standard and the sample. But I don't know How to quantify using the software. There is no example in the manual in which the standard is a mixture of compounds of unknown proportions which generate two peaks. Should I do this manually? I think I can prepare my dilutions and take as signal the sum of the area under the curve of the two peaks and use this data to construct my calibration curve manually. Then use this curve to find the citral concentration on my samples. But maybe there is an easier way to do this, using the software. Any advice will be appreciated?
