This is a "survey" question. I would like to know how other colleagues are doing with Perl. With the power of regular expression, rich collection of libraries in CPAN, Perl has helped biological research a lot. But I feel it is losing its leading role. Even for gluey system language, Python is rising up more and more. Will Perl still be the main language in coming years? Or is the balance shifting fast to Python or something else? What features of Perl do you still value when working with biological data analysis.
