• Difference in writing style: Target audience for the book chapter differs from the target audience of a research article
• The research paper resemble more like reporting, while the book chapter is often written more like a story of how the research was done, as well as including the results.
• The book chapter require to fit into the whole project (Book), whereas a research article is a stand alone work (Journal).
• Th book's editor(s) for book are more involved in choosing the consistency, content, organization, presentation, etc.,for a book project, than for an isolated research article.
• A book chapter gives you the opportunity to express ideas that you wouldn’t be able to in a research journal

Publications in periodicals are likely to reach the readers many more times than book chapters unless the latter is of immense scientific importance.

The information in a book chapter has been collected from the results of many and many researches others read it and deal with as a truth ,whereas researches represent what is one researcher discover or find from his research under specific conditions or environment that we can not consider it as facts.

Results of any research may be not the same if we conduct in different conditions ,whereas book chapter mentioned the constant results that researchers find through conducting many researches under different conditions.

An article presents in scientific format the results of a specific research or the use of a new methodology. A chapter collects and presents in informative format, results of several or many investigations on the same subject.

Research article is referred to as empirical or primary sources, report on original work while as a chapter is one of the main divisions of a piece of writing of relative length.

I totally agree with Francisco Belmonte Serrato. A book chapter usually pretend to be a collection of knowledge and ideas arising from a series of related investigations.

Having written 11 books, I can tell you that writing a single chapter may be a repetition of material available from journals or other books with a few changes. Writing a quality article implies you are expanding the boundaries of knowledge in your field.

Documentation can also be a excellent publication, like TL-2 (everyone knows who undertakes revision of plant groups). I agree with Amir that in general authors should try to extend the boundaries of existing knowledge, at least to a certain extent, in their publications.

Further to the numerous contributions by distinguished colleagues here, the double-blinded peer review process of a research article makes the greatest difference!

It is true. Book chapters are often modified by the editor(s) without showing the changes to the author(s) concerned and such changes might not always improve the quality of the manuscript.

Writing pattern of both differs. Research articles provide more scientific results as book chapters are edited by editor of book.

In a research article the direct results of the conducted research are disclosed, while in book chapter; the main stress is concentrated on disclosing the series of steps require to achieve that results.

Moreover ; book chapters are written on the topics, methods etc. on which true facts already got developed and accepted by the large group of audience and thus repition of materials are there on book chapters, Whereas in research article; the presented results may requires validity checking and further development.

Book chapter contents up detail data & information with the working of research analysis & research chapter this will provide more up data information for t he study of research article .

Research article is based on the study of the working of the research & after updating the information & data this can be incorporated in the book chapter .
