In countries like India, students from Rural Areas lose out in jobs because of their lack of proficiency in English. My question is, why this is such an important factor, and what can be doe to address this. so students studying in Rural areas have equal opportunity in jobs.
Knowing a language in an excellent degree enhances the chance for employment. It is not enough just to communicate in a language but you have to be able to use it almost like a native speaker. A person who makes mistakes in a foreign language is often underestimated in the work context and, thus, the chances for employment are decreased. Of course, there are jobs that do not require the knowledge of a foreign language, so this does not constitute a problem for people who speak only their native language. So, it depends on the type of job; for instance, jobs that demand communication with foreign people require the knowledge of the "global" language, English. I suppose that English is widely spoken in India and especially governmental jobs require an excellent knowledge of it.
