Covenantal Leadership, developed as a leadership model by Moses Pava (2003), integrates many of the key qualities of servant leadership while adding the importance of creating a learning culture and pursuing new truths and innovation. To what degree is Covenantal Leadership appreciated as an important leadership perspective?
Recent studies in the field of education have shown that contextual leadership practices show better results than any of the existing leadership models on its own (Transformation, servant, emotional, conventional etc.). Leadership is highly contextual in nature and there is no one model that fits all the contexts under which it is practiced. There is a growing sense among scholars that there is no 'one size fits all' formula for successful leadership. Literature is full of stories of highly successful leaders failing to deliver when asked to lead in a new context.
Successful leaders are contextual leaders who draw from all the available leadership models, mix and match their aspects best suited for their own context through adaptation. There are huge differences in the context within a particular field itself, for example a highly successful football manager proves to be a disaster when he joins another football club (Mourinho at Manchester United, latest example).
Covenantal leadership has its strength and adds to the existing repertoire of a contextual leader.
Fiedler certainly addressed the importance of contextual leadership -- as have several other leadership theorists. I am familiar with contextual leadership and acknowledge its plusses -- but you haven't really addressed how you see covenantal leadership fitting into context. Your response seems off point to me . . .almost as if you have your own message to convey rather than to address my query.
I respect your point of view, of course, but you really did not address the topic I was hoping that you would focus on.
