It depends how the input files are related. Often a main input file will point abaqus to another input file for a specific module of the model (i.e the mesh or local orientations).

I would import the main input file first using file>import> model> example.inp to see if it loads the full model. If this fails, you can always import them as separate models and use the "copy objects" feature to combine them.
