What is the key chemical species that cleaves the ester bond?
Dear Sai,
This reaction is called a base-catalyzed solvolysis in which K2CO3 is the base that catalyzes the solvolysis and MeOH is a solvent that attacks the acyl group and forms methyl acetate (transesterification) and the deprotected glucopyranoside.
Summary:
Glucopyranoside-O-(C=O)CH3 + K2CO3/MeOH = Glucopyranoside-OH + K2CO3 + CH3-O(C=O)CH3.
Hoping this will be helpful,
Rafik
Thanks a lot Rafik Karaman sir.
