We know from a good number of studies that active (nets, observations, etc) and passive sampling (e.g. pan traps) methods capture different pollinator communities.
Does anyone by chance know of studies that look at whether communities captured by nets and pan traps respond similarly to landscape structure (e.g., % natural habitat, % intensive ag, field size, land use diversity etc).
Any studies that study this topic are welcome!

) is one of the best studies that show that pan-traps are not suitable to compare pan trap catches between different environments or after for example a change in management. Pan traps are less attractive when the surroundings are more attractive, so you actually catch fewer pollinators when the habitat has more pollinators. Because this bias is not there for sweep nets, I think that this is good evidence that you should not use pan traps along a gradient of landscape structure (usually associated with resource availability), perhaps not even to characterise pollinator communities.We have one in-house study (not published) that compared pan-traps to sweep net samples in different habitats, where the pan traps had no differences in catches between habitats, but clear differences with sweep nets (matching observations in the field). I think there are some studies out there, but I cannot seem to find them back again.
