I want to calculate force on a magnetic particle which is being attracted by a magnet. Since the distance between the particle and magnet is getting reduced , so force should depend on magnetic gradient too. So, can anybody suggest how to express the magnetic field gradient perpendicular to the surface of a magnetic roll ?

I don't agree with the "simple" advice that magnetic forces between permanent magnets (or indeed solenoids) follow an inverse square law with respect to the axial distance between them. It is much more complex. Amongst many other references, you can look at International Journal of Physics, 2020, Vol. 8, No. 2, 71-80. I have often conducted the experiment (for undergraduate instruction) with high precision apparatus for two cylindrical magnets, or two solenoids, and the experimental data do not conform to a simple inverse square law. Some graphs of a recent experiment using two cylindrical N42 neodymium magnets is attached.
there is no simple answer like that of inverse square law is possible. The dependence is more practical depending on various other factors including the shape and size of the magnet and position of the point where strength is to be defined with respect to the magnetic moment of the magnet etc.
