I am working on the cold backward extrusion of polyamide. For simplifying, I assumed that the polyamide (a polymer) has isotropic behavior in the finite element simulation. Now I want to estimate the damage according to the Cockcroft-Latham criterion in this problem. For my work, I must explain that how this assumption influences my estimation of damage because stress triaxiality leading to accumulation of damage is positive in the backward extruded tube wall.
Qualitatively, assuming isotropic behavior ignores the build-up of elastic stresses in the polymer, which may have significant influence on the critical stress leading to fracture (direction and position). Quantitatively, you may want to explore these effects on the simplest geometry possible before implementing it to backwards extrusion.
