In a different thread the researchers discussed Einstein's suggestion from 1949 to express kinetic energy as a local field in space.

In this question I would like to evaluate Einstein's final published opinion on space time, 9 April 1952.

"Physical objects are not in space, but these objects are spatially extended. In this way the concept of 'empty space' loses its meaning."

A number of researchers have expressed to me opinions that objects are not spatially extended in any physical way and do not modify the volume of space they pass through other than by gravity. Are there other opinions?
