Most of the papers in the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework study how institutions of power (including media) frame ways of thinking on specific topics.

Indubitably, the new media have turned into highly crucial instruments in a wide variety of areas such as education and entertainment. By instinct, human beings like to interact with other people for finding and sharing  common areas of interest.  From an educational viewpoint, the application of new media  as  tools fostering educational activities set and defined by educational stakeholders, teachers and students has had a great bearing on the development of human cognition because  they have opened doors for distant learning and immediate access of educational materials. As you have further specified, the media play an influential role in the area of reading abilities as well. The contemporary subject and identity issues are object of my thesis (Monte-Serrat, 2013). I have studied the implications of materialism and image in the constitution of the subject, since the latter is constituted in enunciation, in the discursive and symbolic play (Lacan 1949; Pêcheux, 1988).So I associate the general and contemporary aspects of the image status with the social and technical dimensions of discourse (effects of meaning between interlocutors in a socio-historical context).

 I suggest you read Lacan 1949 (Mirror stage) and Michel Pêcheux 1975 (Les Verités de la Palice).
