It has been reported that the significant decrease in hair follicle stem cell (HFSC) in the niche results in the formation of the cyst in the skin. However, I am quite confused how the cyst formation occurs with deprivation of HFSC pool. Could anybody give me logical explanation?
There are examples where decrease in stem cell numbers is accompanied by differentiation events. Examples are particularly abundant in hematopoesis.

You have noticed an association between cyst formation and reduction in follicle stem cell number. It may very well be that it is the cyst formation that is the cause of stem cell reduction.
Also, an association need not prove a cause effect relationship. It may be that there is another unknown factor which induces both cyst formation and stem cell reduction.

Thank you for the comments! As you exactly mentioned, failure to regulate the differentiation process due to the c-Myc over-expression is widely accepted to cause the significant decrease of tissue stem cells in number. Still, I wounder why they form such kind of "empty conformation," named as cysts... Renal multiple cyst formation in ADPKD is also related to the stem cell pool exhaustion? Or just particularly related in the skin ?
