I've been stuck on a homework assignment for a while now. The first problem gave me the XRD pattern of an unknown element, which I successfully identified as Mo. The second problem involved the addition of an alloying element of the same crystal structure to the Mo and showed two diffraction peaks. It showed a peak at roughly 74.2 degrees, which is offset from the 4th peak of the pure Mo XRD located at roughly 74 degrees. The peak at 74.2 degrees has a peak splitting off of it to the right.

So how can I figure out why this peak splitting is happening and use it to identify the unknown alloying element? I have attached the XRD pattern of pure Mo and the Mo alloy.

Thank you very much!
