I currently research the implementation of a digital game for vocabulary learning and I would like to know more of your ideas, suggestions and thoughts on the topic.
hi. different resources should be used to meet the individual differences of learners. nowadays, most learners are willing to use digital devices in their daily life. they can be used in language classes to improve dialogic interaction and engagement. games can be the influential tools of language learning based on task doing. people try to do the game and learn language forms simultaneously. in the world of technological advances, they are one of the best means of improving language with good and positive emotions and excitement. wish u luck in your project
Hi Caroline Chioquetta Lorenset, we happen to be researching on something similar, digital games in EFL vocab learning. For me, it depends on the goals of your proposed learning materials. If you aim for your learners to be more engaged and motivated in learning, you might want to consider problem-based learning approach in your games as learners are directed to, albeit virtually, solve learning problems within the gamified environment of your games. If you aim for vocabulary mastery, you might want to consider choosing or developing games which focus more on the learning parts with less gameplays and gamified features (eg: serious educational games).
Thanks for answering my question. Nice to know that we share research and academic interests.
I agree with you when you mention that for vocabulary learning it is better to design a game or use available existing serious games. Although I am currently investigating the use of an entertainment game for vocabulary acquisition, serious games show cognitive and learning aids.
