I am familiar with Discourse Analysis, especially with the Sociology of Knowledge Approach to Discourse (SKAD) (Keller 2011). I have seen the Q method at some conferences (e.g. Efje Cuppen). Actually, I dived deeper into the q-method, procedure and theory.
However, I am sceptical if the Q method hides typical problems of qualitative social science research behind a mathematical approach (this reminds me a bit of fuzzy logic). The selection of statements, the choice of quasi-normal distribution, the interpretation of factors. All those are crucial for meaningful results and a matter of interpretative research. For me, in DA, like SKAD, this interpretative work done by the researcher is more transparent and better visible for critic.
Do you know of any comparative study with Q and Discourse Analysis?
