Once you carry out a thorough literature review, you get clear picture what is available and what is not and how similar exploratory case studies have been carried out. Taking help from them (citations and referencing are a must) sort out your key concepts (theoretical framework) to plan your research. Thank you so much for your reply. The problem I'm having is that, as far as I can see, no research has been done on this yet, which also made the literature review quite challenging. Basically I've been doing a lot of research on the impacts that the Internet has on an individual's mental health. What I have found is that, although much has been done on identifying and discussing these impacts, specifically on the youth, no study has actually looked at the knowledge and beliefs held by the youth on the impacts. 

I am very much new at this, and have received no guidance from my university supervisor. So any help or insight would really be appreciated more than you know. Does this topic seem like something I should pursue? 

Perhaps it would help to narrow things down. Do you want to know to what degree a young person's knowledge about a particular area (which area?) is increased by various amounts of Internet exposure? Theories of learning could be used as frameworks. Do you also want to know whether a young person's beliefs (about what?) are changed by exposure to the Internet? This is more complicated since the person may only expose himself to sites that share his belief. I think the first question would be easier to address.

This is pretty much vast area, and the research possibilities are wide open for you. There are ethnic variation in terms of how the healthcare knowledge is acquired, utilized, and interpreted. So, you could compare and contrast different race/ethnicity with regards to a particular issue or a disease condition. How their healthcare knowledge and belief system varies depends on certain variable such as literacy, spirituality, etc.

Glad to be of help to you... as mentioned by other researcher.. try to find some literature about your topic.. or theories related to knowledge.. there are many theories that can explain indigenous knowledge nowadays..you have to focus or narrow down what specific knowledge or belief..like I have said it could be indigenous knowledge... this is timely because I am writing how to write a theoretical framework for research proposal because I am also teaching this in my students.. update you soon..God bless..

Try reading " Positive Psychiatry " a book published by APA which incorporates the ideas and research outcomes in positive psychological traits like Knowledge and Belief . 

I would not include any theoretical framework, since what was positive or negative in a mean or environment may not be in yours, with the people studied, with the environment, with cultures or behaviors of the environments.

I would, first, do a survey study (exploratory study) on the beliefs, traditions, concepts and prejudices, myths and taboos of social media, economic and professionals of the environments .I would then elaborate, a range of values, of the social images, of the expectations and aspirations of young people and I would inquire the sample young people about their own expectations to achieve the highest and most human values of the concerned environment.
