Sustainability may be the strategy of rational use of resources by the present generation for saving them for the future generations as well. It has 3 pillars i.e. social development, economic development and environmental development maintaining the principles of sustainability all throughout.
Sustainability is a broad discipline, giving students and graduates insights into most aspects of the human world from business to technology to the environment and the social sciences. The core skills with which graduates leave college or university are highly sought after, especially in a modern world looking to drastically reduce carbon emissions and discover and develop the technologies of the future. Sustainability draws on politics, economics and, philosophy and other social sciences as well as the hard sciences. Sustainability skills and environmental awareness is a priority in many corporate jobs at the graduate level and over as businesses seek to adhere to new legislation. There is no universally agreed definition of sustainability. In fact, there are many different viewpoints on this concept and on how it can be achieved. Nonetheless, nowadays, because of the environmental and social problems society is facing, sustainability is commonly used in a specific way. Therefore, sustainability can be defined as the processes and actions through which humankind avoids the depletion of natural resources (which is influenced by the way societies are organized) to keep an ecological balance so that society’s quality of life doesn’t decrease. In this way, we can say that resources exploitation, manufacturing operations, the direction of investments, technological developments, wealth distribution, institutional changes, among others, are being sustainable if they don’t hurt the ecosystem services and if they allow for society’s quality of life not to decrease.

It is a useful and fascinating science. It not only informs us about these interactions, but about the continuity of the human race and its suitability for the environment and the safety of the planet in which it lives .. Because the primary goal of science is to improve the lives of people and ensure their lives and the lives of the generations in the future.
I would define the science of sustainability as the still non-existent science of human survival in an extreme civilizational crisis.

I think sustainability is the capacity of the members of a community (of some scale) to meet all of their needs while using only the resources and ecological services of the land/air/water that they are stewards of, and the skills of the population, beyond any rational planning horizon.
Sustainability science is therefore the broadest possible topic, spanning at least part of all science (with the possible exception of cosmology and xenobiology, but I'm prepared to be corrected).
It requires understanding human need (anthropology, sociology, economics, psychology, etc.), ecological function (biochemistry, biology, climate science, pedology, fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, stewardship, etc.), human skills (pedagogy, skilled trades and professions, etc), and requires finding ways to improve resilience (adaptive management, design for failure, etc) in all fields of human endeavor.
It requires equal measure human and technological development, by identifying and removing the obstructions that prevent people from meeting their needs, and thereby increasing their freedoms, choices, and capability; and investing in systems of infrastructure with an expectation of an increase in the efficiency by which people use their time to convert resources into the means to meet their needs.
I don't think I can 'define' sustainability science. But I know what it has to be able to do. Luckily, there are many, many practitioners...
