How do we identify that the carbon paper supplied is for electrode and not a gas diffusion layer?

Is there a lot of difference (appearance wise) between GDL used in microbial fuel cell system and carbon paper (TGH-P-TORAY 120 thickness 370 micron) which can be used as an electrode in microbial fuel cell system? some one has any photo of both or is there any thumb rule to differentiate between the two. I have a doubt that the vendor has cheated me by supplying a low grade GDL and not a TGH-P TORAY 120 370 MICRON.
