We have tried making nanoparticle based electrodes in two different ways (1) electrophorosis on a Ni-foam and (2) pressing a composite on the Ni-foam. In either case, upon performing electrochemistry, the deposited film peels off of the Ni-foam. I will appreciate if somebody can provide a detailed information for preparing a stable electrode using nanoparticles.
You may use any binder such as Nafion solution (light concentration) which will prevent falling materials from the electrode surface.
Hi, there are 2 methods:
1) polymer binder eg. Chitosan, nafion, pedot. Just mixing polymer solution and nanoparticles with the suitable ratio before cast-drop on the electrode surface. LEt it dry.
2) Chemical modification: (electrostatic, covalent bonding) eg. SAM technique. Modification the nanoparticle surface with a certain chemical group before functionalized with the electrode surface. For example, your nanoparticles-modified-amine group will covalently bind to carboxyl group-modified electrode

You will have to make a composite paste, which includes a binder such as:

You can use PVDF:SP carbon:Your composite (5:20:75) and NMP as a solvent then make it a paste and then coated over in Ni foam.
the simplest way is to sonicate your nanoparticles catalyst in dilute solution obtained from 5% nafion solution and then drop casting over Ni foam and let it dry
Electrophoresis should work, but adhesion depends on the affinity between your nanoparticles and your substrate. Try using other than Ni
why sholud we finally press the foam? i make working electrode by mixing active material,super p and pvdf in NMP and then press the electrode. but the current of my working electrode in cv was lower than pristine nickel foam!!! i can not understand the reason.can anyone help me?
Can I use from Nafion as binder in the working electrode by loading in Ni foam?
I am also facing the same issue of particles drop off. I tried PTFE : Carbon black : Nanoparticles in 10 : 10: 80 ratio in ethanol and slurry was drop-casted onto Nickel foam. During the electrochemical measurements, particles gradually drop off and I can't get the reproducible results for successive cycles. I tried thin and thick slurry, pressed and unpressed nickel foam, drying in vacuum and air at 70 oC but problem still persists. Can any body help me?

Malik saddam Khan dear nafion doesn't work for my system. its an OH- mediated deprotonation process in strong alkaline conditions, so I am using PTFE
