Suppose that we have designed a controller which is capable of stabilizing the closed loop system but is not a proper one (i.e the degree of the numerator is higher than the degree of the denominator). What's the methodology when trying to add additional poles to the controller to make it proper? Should we try to place them far into the left half plane? Should we pick them so that the nominal sensitivity is reduced? (The question is of general nature so sorry for not providing a specific example.)
