I merged two datasets with different cases; one dataset has two cohorts/comparison groups and the other dataset has one cohort, the experimental group. Some of the variables are named the same and some of them have different variable names, but mean the same thing. For example, in dataset1 with the comparison groups, new charges during the study period is named "AnyCharges" while in dataset2 with the experimental group, new charges is labeled new_charges." How do I get these variables to have the same name so that it's easier to analyze and do a crosstab? Thanks!
I haven't done that for a long time, but can't you use TRANSFORM - AUTOMATIC RECODE? You use that function to automatically recode one of the variable names into another name. I suggest backing up your file before using this to take one of the variable names & recode it into the other name...just in case I'm wrong.
