We are using a particular coarse aggregate ( 10 mm -20 mm)in our place. I don't know what is it..basalt or granite or something else. At least as of now, I don't have definite information about its source. How to know it by myself? Is it possible to tell by color or some tests etc.?

...or get someone to make a thin section and examine it under a petrological microscope. But grain size is the first port of call.
How much detail you go into depends on why it matters. Why do you need to know?

Apart from what Dr. Shumlyanskyy has already said I recommend buying a simple booklet devoted to rockhounds and mineral collectors where most rock types are well illustrated in full-color images and described in a simple manner so as to be understandable also for non-geologists and non-mineralogists.
Measure as much as you can measure with the unarmed eyes and describe the specimen as detailed as possible.
If there are different rock types try and build up a reference collection of your own and find out what the source rock and quarrying field the specimen has been derived from.
It is at the beginning of your getting in touch with lithology.
